The Problems of Implementing Inclusive Education at Islamic Senior High School of Muhammadiyah Pekanbaru

This research aimed at finding out the problems of implementing inclusive education at Islamic Senior
High School of Muhammadiyah Pekanbaru, and it was qualitative descriptive research. The main informants in
this research were 4 teachers, and the supporting informants were the headmaster and the headmaster vice of
curriculum affairs. Observation, interview, and documentation were the techniques of collecting data. The
techniques of analyzing data were data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. Based on the research
findings, the problems of implementing inclusive education at Islamic Senior High School of Muhammadiyah
Pekanbaru were no teaching material that was specifically modified in learning in inclusive classes, the use of
media and learning methods that were not adjusted to the needs of students with special needs, the lack of teacher
sensitivity to the limitations of inclusive students, difficulties in communicating with students with special needs,
the absence of a structured special curriculum, and limited facilities and infrastructure. The underlying factors
were the lack of teacher experience in teaching students with special needs, the policy of the Ministry of
Religious Affairs to realize Inclusive Schools without optimal preparation, and the absence of experts or special
assistant teachers.
