Abstract

The Malay performing arts of Riau are an essential part of local culture and contain many noble values. These values can be seen in the movements, music, lyrics, rules, and messages conveyed in each performance. This study discusses how the Malay performing arts of Riau can help shape the morals and character of the younger generation amid rapid social and cultural changes. This research uses the library research method, which is a research approach that utilizes various literature sources as the primary basis for data collection. The findings show that performances such as Zapin dance, Makyong, and Randai convey messages about politeness, togetherness, respect for tradition, and religious values. These values can guide young people when delivered in engaging and contextually relevant ways. However, decreasing youth interest and the lack of cultural spaces present significant challenges. Therefore, efforts to revitalize the Malay performing arts of Riau are needed through education, community-based programs, and innovative approaches to performance. Overall, the Malay performing arts of Riau play an important role in shaping the morals of the younger generation while preserving local cultural identity
