Abstract

Communication skills are indispensable in the learning process. This study aims to describe students' oral and written communication skills during the learning process on chemical bonding materials. This research uses quantitative descriptive research methods. The subjects of this study were 27 class X MIA students at SMAS Bina Siswa Rokan Hilir. Data collection techniques by means of observation and test of written communication skills. Data from observations and tests of written communication skills were analyzed. The highest student oral communication ability in the indicator provides answers to teacher questions with a percentage of 29.63% of students active in the indicator the lowest oral communication in the indicator conveys learning conclusions with a percentage of 7.41%. Students' overall written communication skills are included in the good category with a percentage of 63.88% the highest written communication ability on the lewis structure writing indicator with a score of 65.18% and the lowest written communication ability on the 39.25% indicator on the language clarity indicator used.
